Osteopathy
Professional assessment, diagnosis and individualised treatment for pain, movement and wider health concerns.

What Is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a regulated healthcare profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions affecting the body.
Osteopaths are trained to assess symptoms, identify possible underlying causes and recognise when further medical investigation or referral may be needed. Osteopathy is therefore much more than hands-on treatment for muscles and joints.
At Marylebone House, I consider your symptoms in the context of your medical history, lifestyle and overall health. My aim is to understand not only where you experience discomfort, but also what may be contributing to it.
How Does It Work?
Your appointment begins with a detailed consultation and clinical assessment. Depending on your symptoms, this may include examination of your movement, joints, muscles and nervous system, alongside relevant orthopaedic and neurological tests.
I will explain my findings and discuss a suitable treatment plan with you.
Where appropriate, treatment may include joint mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, gentle stretching and tailored exercise advice. If your symptoms suggest a condition requiring further investigation, I will recommend appropriate medical follow-up.

Who Is It For?
Osteopathy may be suitable for people experiencing recent injuries, persistent pain, movement difficulties or recurring physical symptoms.
It can also provide a useful first point of assessment when you are unsure what is causing your discomfort.
Osteopathy may also offer valuable support to people living with chronic health conditions associated with persistent pain, such as endometriosis. Even when pain is related to a wider medical condition rather than a musculoskeletal problem alone, an individualised osteopathic approach may help manage discomfort, support movement and improve day-to-day comfort. My role is to assess your concerns carefully, consider what may be contributing to your symptoms and provide appropriate care, working alongside other healthcare professionals when needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do osteopaths diagnose conditions?
Yes. Registered osteopaths are trained in clinical assessment and diagnosis, particularly of musculoskeletal and related conditions. They also recognise when symptoms require investigation by another healthcare professional.
Will I receive treatment at my first appointment?
Usually, if treatment is appropriate. However, assessment and diagnosis come first, and further investigation may sometimes be recommended.
What should I wear to my osteopathy appointment?
Please wear comfortable clothing and underwear that you feel at ease in. Depending on the area being examined, you may be asked to remove some outer clothing to allow an appropriate assessment. Comfortable underwear or cycling shorts are ideal. Your comfort and privacy will always be respected, and you can discuss any concerns before the examination.
Is osteopathy safe during pregnancy?
Osteopathy can be suitable during pregnancy when treatment is adapted to your stage of pregnancy, symptoms and medical history. Gentle techniques may be used to help manage pregnancy-related musculoskeletal discomfort, including back and pelvic pain. I will assess your individual circumstances before treatment and recommend medical advice or referral where appropriate.
